Information for Solution Providers
Be on the leading edge: help develop Canada's EHR
Are you an IT solution provider who specializes in developing health care information systems? Work with Canada Health Infoway (Infoway) to get involved in one of the IT industry's fastest growing verticals. In collaboration with its public and private sector partners, Infoway provides funding and strategic oversight to electronic health projects across the country.
In Canada, IT solution providers are collaborating with provincial and territorial jurisdictions to develop a network of secure, scalable electronic health record (EHR) systems. These systems will enable patients and authorized Canadian health care providers to access secure, essential health records when and where they're needed.
Now is your chance to get involved in developing Canada's growing network of EHR systems.
Infoway: Funding and envisioning Canada's EHR
At the heart of Canada's EHR initiative, Infoway plays two key roles in the development of Canada's EHR:
- Infoway collaborates with Canada's provinces and territories to select and fund EHR projects across the country.
- Infoway has developed the EHRS Blueprint for Canada. This Blueprint serves as the model, standard and vision for connecting health information systems in Canada.
As an IT solution provider, you work directly for provinces and territories developing regional EHR projects.

Vendors whose solutions achieve certification will be authorized to apply the “Infoway Certified” certification mark to their product and related marketing materials to enhance their sales and promotional efforts.
The Blueprint: Ensuring security and interoperability
Infoway's EHRS Blueprint is a validated business and technical architecture that guides the development of EHR solutions in Canada. In fact, Infoway has been internationally recognized for its work on this unique framework.
The Blueprint provides the framework for how Canada's EHR networks and systems will share, access, manage and safeguard health care information. It provides a flexible, scalable and secure platform for connecting thousands of facilities and services across jurisdictions and the continuum of care.

Hear about the experiences of implementing pan-Canadian health information standards from other health solution providers in our latest video. Some of the insights discussed:
- Dennis Giokas, CTO, Canada Health Infoway, discusses the necessity of standards. By using the pan-Canadian standards, “not only can I exchange information between any two systems, but I can understand and process the information that I’ve exchanged between those two systems.”
- George Edwards, VP ProPharm Ltd., “pan-Canadian standards are the Holy Grail for us as a developer. They will allow us to leverage what we've done in PEI, dramatically reducing our development costs.”
- Peter Lawlor, Project Manager, Deltaware Solutions, “The standards really allow [vendors] to take that one product and use it right across the country.”
- George Edwards, VP ProPharm Ltd., “Standards give us a common way of communicating between systems, which allows us to focus on the functionality.”
- Frantz Leuenberger, VP Pharmacy Solutions, Telus, “So one of the challenges for us, of course, is to familiarize ourselves with the standard and then send our employees to be trained on a regular basis to truly master the use of the standards.” Find out how your company can access the premier education opportunities at Education Summits.
